The 2010 December Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Penny of Sweet Sadie’s Baking. She chose to challenge Daring Bakers’ to make Stollen. She adapted a friend’s family recipe and combined it with information from friends, techniques from Peter Reinhart’s book………and Martha Stewart’s demonstration.
This was my first attempt at making a yeast bread. Doug usually takes the reigns when making bread, but somehow I did it too.
I now understand why Doug enjoys making bread. Kneading the dough is therapeutic, and a lot of fun. When the final product comes from the oven, there are warm feelings of happiness and accomplishment.
I also made the candied orange peel to put into the mix.
